Green Chlorite:

The term chlorite actually encompasses a wide variety of minerals, which interestingly does not usually include chlorine as you might think. It is in the silicate family and is associated with clay. It is known for its beautiful formations within crystals, usually as phantoms and often bright green in colour. Chlorite can appear black, white, yellow and lavender. Sometimes it forms in small crystals and gives the appearance of moss within a crystal.

Folklore and Healing Properties:

Green Chlorite is believed to have strong anti-cancer properties by assisting with physical regeneration by helping to absorb and use the nutrients we take in. Chlorite enables our body to receive and use more efficiently the energy of the quartz while quartz itself amplifies the energy of the chlorite. Chlorite included quartz helps you to work through emotional issues and to discard thought of self-judgement and harsh self- criticism.

Sphalerite:

The name sphalerite is from the Greek word “sphaleros” which means deceiving or treacherous. It was given this name because of the many different appearance’s sphalerite can come in and because it can be very challenging to identify.

If Sphalerite contains a large amount of iron impurities, it will have a black or metallic dark grey colour, which is typical of most sulphide minerals. Sphalerite is one of the few minerals that can range from gemmy transparent crystals to dark, metallic-black crystals.

Pyrite:

The name “pyrite” comes from the Greek word “pyr” meaning “fire.” Pyrite was given this name because if it is struck against metal or another hard material it can create sparks and start a fire. Pieces of pyrite have also been used as a spark-producing material in flintlock firearms.

Pyrite is also famously known as “Fool’s Gold.” The mineral’s gold colour and metallic lustre often caused it to be mistaken for gold. However, pyrite is often found formed together with gold so in some instances there will be enough gold within the Pyrite to warrant mining.

Hand-specimens of pyrite are usually easy to identify. The mineral always has a brass-yellow colour and metallic lustre.  It is harder than other yellow metallic minerals, and its streak is black, usually with a tinge of green. It often occurs in well-formed crystals in the shape of cubes, octahedrons, or pyritohedron’s, which often have striated faces.

Folklore and Healing Properties:

Pyrite crystal properties protect the environment from negative energy, bringing an energising and optimistic energy to your space, so it is the perfect stone to place on your desk where you are working. Pyrite also promotes good physical health and emotional well-being. Pyrite is helpful for any type of infection and can purify the systems of the body.
