He swore revenge on the next human who crossed his path with his tigers that would carry out his bidding. A beautiful young maiden called Amethyst was on her way to pay tribute to the goddess Diana. Diana turned Amethyst into a statue of quartz to protect her from the tiger’s savage claws. Dionysius cried tears of wine in regret at the sight of the beautiful statue. His tears stained the quartz purple, creating the famous gem amethyst.
